On the outskirts of the Grand Morillon site, an observatory has been installed not far from the future Nations tram line, in a park opposite the International Labour Organization (ILO). The installation aims to question the notion of means [‘dispositive’ is the direction translation] – in reference to Giorgio Agamben – and refers to Sylvain Tesson and his ‘dark paths’, to Baptiste Morizot and his animal tracks. The observatory also seeks to play with the notions of public and private space, particularly in this international context with its particular security systems, including the UN MOSS (Minimum Operational Security Standards) which will eventually prevent caccess to the park for citizens of Geneva. The possibility of rewilding part of a hyper-urban territory into the hyper-rural; environmental issues versus social issues; is the watchtower an observatory of fauna and flora or on the contrary an object of mistrust in the face of security devices? Who’s watching who?
